Our history
Scanwel was established in 1974 by the company founder, Harald Westgaard. The name, Scanwel, comes from a combination of Harald's origin, Scandinavian, and the company's Welsh heritage.
The company moved to The Old School in Llandderfel, North Wales, in 1977 and remained operating from there for 42 years, as well as opening a second systems assembly factory in 1995.
Ian Owen joined the business in 1995 as Joint Director and subsequently, Ian and his wife, Rachel, took full ownership.
In 2019, the business moved to new premises on the Bala Enterprise Park, to include a larger manufacturing facility, and significantly increased storage space in the warehouse, to support expansion.
In 2020, Heligan Group made an investment into the company and it continues to grow.
Scanwel remains a family and employee owned organisation.
